CBD Hemp Oil Has Distinct Advantages Over Medical Marijuana
As we grind on through lengthy legal battles, more and more countries around the world as well as states within the US, are loosening the laws surrounding the use and sale of medical marijuana. With that being said, it can still be quite difficult to access in many places, and marijuana still remains illegal under federal laws in the US. Even if it is legal in your area, marijuana may come with significant social stigma as its benefits only slowly become accepted by the public at large.
If you are interested in the benefits of medical marijuana, but cannot access it or are afraid of the social repercussions associated with it, there is thankfully an extremely viable, legal and safer alternative available. In many ways, it is also more effective for treating certain severe health issues. Cannabidiol, or CBD as its more commonly referred to, is the completely legal alternative to medical marijuana. Although it comes from the same genus of cannabis sativa plant, it circumnavigates many of the issues with marijuana and is often more readily available to patients seeking relief. In Europe, CBD has been synthesized in a lab, and made into pharmaceuticals. They are approved by the EU for treatment of many ailments.
If this seems shocking to you, that a substance from the same plant as medical marijuana is not only legal, but more effective, let's delve in deeper to understand why CBD hemp oil has distinct advantages over medical marijuana.
No Mind-Altering Effects
One of the primary reasons why medical marijuana isn’t an option for many people is its mind-altering effects. Tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC, has a psychoactive component, which when consumed leads users to feel “high” or “stoned”. These sensations affect both mind and body, and for some people can trigger anxiety, stress and underlying psychoactive conditions. It’s also not always appropriate for consumption prior to working, prior to driving, or for treatment of health issues in children.
Cannabidiol, which on the other hand, is produced from industrial hemp plants that contain under 0.3% THC, does not affect the brain in the same way. Interestingly, the CBD component of the cannabis plant actually seems to have a counteractive effect to the anxiety triggered by THC. In clinical trials, it has been found to limit the length and strength of the psychoactive effects of THC. Although both CBD and THC interact with the same cannabinoid receptors in the brain (CB1 and CB2), THC locks directly with the receptor, while CBD seems to interact differently. Although not fully understood, CBD seems to limit the amount of time that THC is locked in, and eventually kick it out, reducing the time frame for the high feeling.
Instead, CBD has no strong feelings associated with it. Although many people report feeling calm and relaxing, it does not induce any sort of high. It doesn’t induce giggles, or anxiety, or even hunger. Any effects that you may feel after consumption will be mild, and never overpowering.
It’s Legal Right Now
Another distinct advantage is that CBD hemp oil is completely legal. Because it is made out of industrial hemp, which is still cannabis, but contains less than 0.3% THC, it doesn’t fall under the same Schedule 1 legal restrictions that marijuana does. This, of course, is directly linked to the fact that it cannot get you high like typical medical marijuana does. Although the DEA has been attempting to target the sale of CBD oils through new regulations, CBD hemp oil is protected through the US Agricultural Act of 2014 which states that no federal agency can target the farming, distribution, sale, or use of industrial hemp within the united states. The DEA seems to be primarily targeting the sale of CBD hemp oil within the pseudo-pharmaceutical industry, whereas those using naturally produced CBD hemp extracts following the guidelines of the natural supplement industry, are not targeted.
Even if you are from an area where medical marijuana is still illegal, CBD oil doesn’t fall under the same regulation due to its lack of THC. It is safe to use, and seems thus far, through extensive human trials, to have only limited and mild side effects. It's safe to use for children, for pets and for the elderly.
Proven to Target Serious Health Issues
Why use CBD oil if it doesn’t have any recreational use? Cannabidiol has been proven to have significant benefits for some very serious health issues. It has been found in lab studies to be anti-tumor, effectively reducing the capability of cancer to metastasize. It’s also extremely beneficial for cancer patients undergoing harsh chemotherapy treatments, as it maintains a healthy appetite, reduces nausea and vomiting and otherwise reduces the severe side effects experienced during the procedure.
One of the most famous examples of CBD’s medical benefit is its ability to reduce seizures in children who have drug-resistant forms of epilepsy. The reduction is extremely dramatic, and often children have gone from dozens of seizures a day to less than one. In other diseases such as MS and Parkinson’s, CBD is also being pursued as a safe way to reduce tremors.
The available research into the health benefits of CBD is seemingly never ending, and is certainly much more than we could include here. To review briefly, there are other significant areas on top of the few listed above, such as for treatment of depression, anxiety, inflammation and chronic pain. Cannabidiol oil has been found to work where traditional medications cannot, or where traditional medications have too many side effects.
In many areas, CBD often has numerous advantages over the use of medical marijuana. This isn’t to say that marijuana doesn’t have its own set of health benefits, but CBD is often far more applicable and safe to use than medical marijuana is. Plus, CBD is legally available nearly everywhere in the world.
